    issues with Netezza emulator 7 and datastage

    Hello,
    I have 3 VMWares running.
    2 for Netezza : Host and SPU.
    1 for datastage.

    When I run Netezza only, everything works fine.
    But when I run the datastage VMware and the datastage client, the connection between the Netezza Host and SPU is lost.

    But I need them all, to learn how to connect from datastage to Netezza.

    I hope someone can help!
    Tania

    Follow the below steps and check whether you are able to connect to netezza or not

    1) Configuration ODBC

    Modify .odbc.ini file under $DSHOME and add 2 entries:
    a) in the [ODBC Data Sources] section add an entry with the name of the DSN. Example:

    NZSQL=NetezzaSQL

    [NZSQL]
    Driver=/usr/local/nz/lib/libnzsqlodbc.so
    Description=NetezzaSQL ODBC
    Servername=netezza.server.com
    Port=5480
    Database=asctest
    Username=admin
    Password=password
    CancelAsFreeStmt=false
    CommLog=false
    Ksqo=false
    Lie=false
    Optimizer=false
    Parse=false
    PreFetch=256
    Protocol=7.0
    ReadOnly=false
    ShowSystemTables=false
    Socket=16384
    DateFormat=1
    TranslationDLL=
    TranslationName=
    TranslationOption=

    b) Update the uvodbc.config with the entry you created above.

    2) Create a soft link to the .odbc.ini and call it odbc.ini (the Netezza client looks for an odbc.ini file, it won't find the .odbc.ini)

    3) Modify the dsenv file

    a) Add the variable NZ_ODBC_INI_PATH -
    b) Add the variable NETEZZA. This should point to the place where the Netezza
    client has been installed.
    c) Add $NETEZZA/bin to PATH
    d) Add $NETEZZA/lib to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH OR LIBPATH or SHLIB_PATH
    Example:

    NZ_ODBC_INI_PATH=$DSHOME; export NZ_ODBC_INI_PATH
    NETEZZA=/usr/local/nz; export NETEZZA
    PATH=$PATH:$NETEZZA/bin; export PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ LD_LIBRARY_PATh:$NETEZZA/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

    b) Update the uvodbc.config with the entry you created above.

    I don't have a uvodbc.config file on my computer.

    3) Modify the dsenv file

    I don't have a dsenv file on my computer.
    I do have a dsenvwrapper.sh

    I can connect with Putty, through NZQSL.
    But the problem is, when I start my DS-VMware and I open my DS-client, the connection between mij Netezza-Host VMware and the SPU VMware get lost.
    So I cant's even try to connect to Netezza in Datastage because my connection get lost before I can do that.

    Login to the vmwhere where datastage server is installed. Now from this server try connecting to netezza with nzsql. If you are able to connect then its fine. If not then you have to check whether the netezza drivers are installed or not.

    one more question. Are all the vmwares are up and running?

    I think, the problem might be with ip addresses. When ever you start a vmware, the os is assigned with a new ip address. This might be causing issues.

    Yes, all the vmwares are up and running.
    I don't know how to connect with NZSQL from the datastage server.
    I tried to ping from the datastage server to the Netezza host, but that's not possible.

    So, if I understand, there must be Netezza drivers installed on the datastage VMware server?

    I'm a totally newbie in this matter.
    Usually everything is pre-installed for me and I just have to develop at the datastage client.
    But now I have to make a POC on my own computer with VMwares...

    Follow these steps:

    Assign static ip addresses for all the vmwares.
    Install netezza odbc drivers on the vmware where datastage sever is installed.
    Follow the steps which amrutha mentioned
